1. Support the Walk Wheel Cycle Trust
The UK cycling network that we are all familiar
with was developed over the past 49
years by Sustrans . They now have
a much broader horizon imagining what could happen if we changed how we travel.
Their renewed mission aims to deliver more joy per
journey, more peace per pedal, more smiles per mile; consequently, and to
reflect this, Sustrans has rebranded
as the :-
Walk Wheel Cycle Trust
Getting out of cars and changing how we travel can improve many things that impact on health and wellbeing. Our streets would be safer and our air would be cleaner and we would improve our connections with our communities and the world around us. In order to work with communities they want to develop a people powered movement to effect change on the ground but this needs resources from government and UK citizens. If you want to find out more and you want to support this movement please check out their new website.
2. Join the Cycle Touring & Bikepacking Festival 2026 (virtual event on line). 16th -18th October 2026.
If you need ideas of where to go and want to do on your bike this FREE event will give you some inspiration. Just click on the link above to see what is on this weekend. You can also catch up on some past Festival Talks on the Cycle Touring Festival U-tube site.
3. Contact your local councillors to enquire about poor Cycling Walking and Wheeling provision in Kendal.
In 2022 Westmorland & Furness CC put together the Kendal Local Cycling & Walking Infrastructure Plan (LCWIP) but this seems to be progressing at a glacial pace and it certainly does not take into account Global Warming. We need to put pressure on the powers that be as to why progress has been so slow. The more of us that raise this issue the better the chance of seeing some improvements.
