Description

From  Milnthorpe Square go down over the A6 lights and head for Arnside.

In ½ mile turn left into Dallam Park immediately after crossing a river bridge (blue bike sign, National Cycle Network 6, Lancaster), to climb the tree – lined road, turning left at the top.

Take the nearby 1st right to Storth. The route on this gently undulating road arrives at Storth crossroads, there going left (sign Hazelslack/ Silverdale).

(Note - The route soon passes Hazelslack Farm, and 150 yards after is a gate onto Dollywood Lane with an almost illegible wooden Byway sign. Taking this provides a legal ¾  mile of off – road riding. The track is stone, mostly ok for touring tyres but a bit lumpier and steeper towards the end. Inadvisable if wet. At the end turn right, dropping down to a T, and there again turning right to rejoin the route at the next junction.)

Otherwise continue past Hazelslack Farm on to the main road, going left (Carnforth sign) and in ½ + mile right turning right at the T to Silverdale.

This pleasant road past Gait Barrows leads, down over the railway line, to the Silverdale right turn, which is taken.

In a couple of minutes bear right and follow the wide Arnside road through the housing and after the caravan park, drop down briefly to the sea and then on, past Arnside Tower to drop down to Arnside (cafes, chippy, pubs, shops, wc).

(Note - The interesting Woodlands Hotel is situated on the edge of woodland overlooking Silverdale. To reach it go up a wide track opposite Bottoms Lane, just before the Arnside turning, (pub sign after entrance gates to  track - the roadside sign is currently missing). On leaving the hotel simply carry on through the gate to Woodlands Drive and down to the main road, there rejoining the Arnside route.)

Leaving Arnside, continue past the station, then immediately left under the railway bridge and follow the main road via Sandside and more sea back to Milnthorpe.
