Description

From the front of the Leisure Centre go left on the short shared path, before joining the main road and staying in the left hand lane to the lights.

Fork left at the lights (Oxenholme/ Station/ Old Hutton sign) and follow the road up to the station and steeply up to the Station Inn and beyond.

In a mile + Old Hutton/ Middleshaw is reached, and here go left (sign Ewebank) and steadily climb to Ewebank.

There go right (unsigned) uphill, to cross the M6 and then immediately right (unsigned) for a short downhill, at the bottom taking the right turn and immediately  joining (right, both unsigned) the road to and past Bendrigg Lodge.

A quick descent follows, and the road continues, to cross the M6 bridge (Old Hutton sign) and down to the nearby crossroads at the top of strung out Old Hutton.

Cross straight over (sign Gatebeck/ Endmoor) for a gradual descent of a mile to Holmescales Farm, where turn right onto Popplemire Lane (unsigned).

At the end of Popplemire Lane the outward route is now rejoined at Middleshaw, the lower part of strung out Old Hutton.

Here go left (sign Kendal) and follow the road back to the Station Inn. It then drops down past the railway station to the lights on the main A65 road, the Leisure Centre now being a minute away on the right.
